Mesilla Valley Film Society shows Hunt for the Wilderpeople

Hunt for the WilderpeopleEach week, the Mesilla Valley Film Society presents a film you won’t see in other local movie theaters. The Fountain Theatre is one block south of the Mesilla Plaza at 2469 Calle de Guadalupe. Films are shown evenings at 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays at 1:30 and 7:30 p.m.; Sundays at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Exceptions: last Thursday of the month: 1:30 matinee but no evening show; last Saturday of the month: no matinee. Ticket prices are regular $7, senior/student $6, member $5, child $5, and Wednesdays $5.

July 29 – August 4: The Lobster
In a dystopian near future, single people are taken to The Hotel, where they are obliged to find a romantic partner in forty-five days or are transformed into beasts and sent to The Woods. Starring Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz. (Saturday, July 30, no matinee.)

August 5 – 11: Dheepan (English, Tamil, and French with subtitles)
Dheepan is a Sri Lankan Tamil warrior who flees to France and ends up working as a caretaker outside Paris. (This movie is free to members.)

August 12 – 18: Hunt for the Wilderpeople
A national manhunt is ordered for a rebellious kid (Julian Dennison) and his foster uncle (Sam Neill) who go missing in the wild New Zealand bush.

August 19 – 25: Under the Sun
A fascinating portrait of one girl and her parents as she prepares to join the Korean Children’s Union on Kim Jong-Il’s birthday, known as the “Day Of The Shining Star.” (Thursday, August 25, there will be a 1:30 matinee with no evening screening.)

August 26 – September 1: A Bigger Splash
The vacation of a famous rock star and a filmmaker is disrupted by the unexpected visit of an old friend and his daughter. Starring Tilda Swinton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Ralph Fiennes and Dakota Johnson. (Saturday, August 27, no matinee.)
