“Art in the Detail: 20th Century Masters of Photography,” featuring works from the Syracuse University Art Galleries, opens in the Museum of Art on Friday, November 3, and continues through Saturday, January 20, 2018. An opening reception will be held Friday, November 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibition highlights a selection of photographs from the 20th century, exploring texture, light, and objects. Included are masters Imogene Cunningham, Aaron Siskind, Wynn Bullock, and Barbara Morgan.
Also on exhibit will be “From the Collection: From the Ground Up; Two Decades of Ceramic Art.” Ceramic works purchased from “From the Ground Up” exhibits from 1996 to the present will be displayed. Fifteen artists from the Rocky Mountain region of the U.S. will be represented, including Las Cruces artists Mari Blacker, Jan Preston Archey, and Suzanne Kane.
The Museum of Art hosts a free art appreciation activity every Saturday from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. in the atrium of the Museum of Nature & Science. For the month of November, the theme is Folk Art.

Admission to the Museum of Art is free. The museum is located at 491 N. Do you like to read and discuss books? Rail Readers Book Club meets on the third Wednesday of the month. On November 15, they will discuss “Mystery in White,” written by J. Jefferson Farjeon.
“Mrs. Prickett’s Story Time” is at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 9. Join Mrs. Prickett and her delightful puppets as they read books and tell stories. A related activity appropriate for pre-school children will follow the story. Two other story times for children of all ages are at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, and Saturday, November 18.
At 12 noon on Tuesday, November 14, the Brown Bag Lecture will be presented by Sheri Fletcher from Truth or Consequences’ Geronimo Springs Museum.
